From 2018 to 2019 ~ Happy New Year

First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours, I truly hope you had a fantastic festive period and are weaning yourselves off the left-over foods. Why is it just so hard?
The last couple of weeks of school, as expected, were manically brilliant. The Children performed beautifully at the Christmas concert and we were very proud of them. The Christmas school dinner was a success and so was the Pirate FM sing-along. It was fantastic to see St Hilary as the special Christmas Eve guests singing One more Sleep to Santa. Have you seen it on Youtube?
We had 8 children who visited various care homes in the final two weeks of term with Mrs Eddy. They did themselves and the school very proud and I’m sure put huge smiles on everyone’s faces!
The children finished writing their fantastic Norse myths and I was impressed with how much SPaG skills they managed to include. I know that they enjoyed writing them especially after reading Beowulf and exploring other myths from this time period. As we move on to the next topic, the children will be reading Cosmic by Frank Cottrell-Boyce as our class novel. We will read lots of poems on a Space theme as well as delve into the moon landing controversy and whether or not it is fake.
After learning about factors, multiples, cubed and square numbers, the children will be learning about perimeter and area during the first week back. This involves lots of concrete resources and investigating so as to deepen the children’s understanding further.
The new spelling sheet has already been uploaded on the website with the corresponding weeks been put onto Spellingshed. You will also be able to find the X table/Maths skill of the week as well as recent photos from the end of term.
With our New space themed topic with the essential question of ‘How can we shine as brightly as the stars?’ will see the children come up with many ideas in which we can be the best we can be by becoming kinder, more considerate and generally, all round good citizens who care for everyone and everything. Any topical things (books, props etc) that the children would like to bring in for our topic area will be gratefully received.

Well done to our final Star Pupil of 2019, who was Caitlin, for being incredibly helpful and positive during the final week.

Bikeability starts next week. You should have received an email about it this week and paperwork was sent home at the end of term. Massive apologies for the lateness, I only received the dates on the final day of term.

A sad goodbye to Miss Pascoe who has left the school after a loyal 15 years and will be very much missed moving forward. Mrs Ballard will now become our full time TA and a new TA, Mrs Wright, has been appointed as our 1-1 support. We can’t wait to get stuck back in and give the children a super two terms left in Year 5.

Here’s to a happy, healthy, safe and successful year ahead.
Mr Larter
