NADELIK LOWEN!

WOW! The children really amazed me with their confidence, passion and articulation at our project outcome afternoon. We’re so proud of them and their efforts! Thank you so so much for making the afternoon extra special by turning out so overwhelmingly. The children had such a fun time and it was clear just how much they loved this term’s topic. What a fabulous way to end the year eh?

A huge thank you to Tamsyn, Nessie and Sarah for giving up their time to come and bake Hevva cake and pasties this week – the kids got SO much out of it and it wouldn’t have been right to learn about Cornish traditions without these delights! An awesome job by all. Please go and take a look at the photos of the children baking, the Cornish gathering and the film of the children’s performance of ‘A Smugglers Song’.
We’re sad to say that Ellie, who joined us early in the term, will be leaving us this Christmas as she and her family go back to Somerset. We will truly miss Ellie and her outstanding behaviour, smile and friendship and wish her well for the future; I’m sure we’ll keep in touch!
A huge congratulations to Ellie who became the children’s star pupil of the entire term and to Shilah for becoming the adult’s star pupil of the term. These guys have done amazingly this Autumn and have finished 2017 on a high!
A massive thank you to our fabulous TAs Miss Rowe and Mrs Ballard for their hard work, support and for always being there for the children (and myself), Gwithian Class wouldn’t be the same without them.
Another thank you must go to you all for your continuing support and the wonderful gifts we received for Christmas. It really is very, very much appreciated.
Have a truly wonderful Christmas – Here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2018!
Mr L
P.S Don’t forget that Swimming starts on Tuesday 9th January

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

We’re so close to the Christmas holidays already and as always, we’ve been incredibly busy. We’re still making sure we learn as much as possible despite lots of practises for the upcoming concerts this week. What did you think of the gifts at the Christmas fayre? The children were excited about them being sold and we hope they’re already being used 😊
English has seen the children learn all about performance poetry. They have read, learned and performed poetry in pairs, groups and as a class. This has really enhanced their performance techniques as well as their speaking and listening skills. There is a film on our class webpage of the class performing a poem about bullying called ‘Our Side of the Playground’. This coincided with our Jigsaw lesson about bullying so brilliantly. Enjoy. The children have learned how to write figurative language including similes, metaphors and personification. Some children have used this in this weeks Big Writes which shows how much they’ve engaged in their learning. The children will edit their poetry and choose their favourite line, so I can create a whole class poem – it’s going to be epic! I shall post it online when we’ve had the lesson this week.
The children wrote some fabulous stories in their Big Writes this week. I think they enjoyed the stimulus of the 2012 John Lewis advert although you wouldn’t believe how most of them spelt John! A big well done to Oscar S for becoming our star writer last week. I wonder who it’ll be this week to finish off 2017 on a high?
In Maths, the children have learned how to solve problems using their knowledge of perimeter. They have also multiplied and divided numbers (including decimals) by 100 and 100 which they’ve taken to like ducks to water! This is such a valuable skill and can be used in other areas of the subject. Next term, we shall be focussing on all things fraction which can be fun yet very challenging for some children so any help with this will be gratefully received!
The children have finished their wikis in computing and have created little adverts using some of their new-found skills to invite you to our project outcome (Monday 18th at 2pm!). We hope you received these in the planners. They were so excited to print them so apologies if they’re not professional. We did ask them to edit and ensure spellings etc were accurate but hey! They’re children! The most important thing is that they were excited and engaged in their learning.
So…it’s the Junior Christmas production on Tuesday (2pm and 6.30pm at the church) and we have been practising like mad. Although we have one class song and a few whole KS2 songs to learn, you wouldn’t believe how much effort goes into it. We always seem to be in healthy competition with Year 5 who are simply outstanding this year, but we have worked our socks off and will be incredible, I’m sure. I’m so proud of the children for really upping their game. They asked to wear sunglasses for the performance as our song is called ‘Shepherd Rock’ so expect some air guitars! We hope you enjoy.
We’ve got lots of exciting plans for the last 7 and a half days of school this term…including some baking courtesy of some wonderful parents. This will enhance our project out come no doubt! It’s the school’s Christmas dinner on Thursday which always has a fab atmosphere and gets everyone in the mood. Expect there to be lots of fun yet tired children as festivities ramps up a notch!
A huge well done to last week’s star pupil Oscar S for amazing effort in all areas and this week’s winner, Emma who participates well in lessons and has been incredibly helpful. Well done guys!
We hope you are able to join us for our project outcome where there will be some arts and crafts to get involved in as well as some coffee and cake to enjoy!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr Larter
