Big events!

Our Viking Day was FANTASTIC! I hope the children came home buzzing about what they did. The costumes they wore were superb so we really appreciate your support with this as well as for supplying cardboard. Their shields looked great! A HUGE thank you must go to Tamsyn Stevens and Nessie Hill for their staunch support and creativity during the day. We genuinely could not have done it without them; the food was fantastic! If you have a spare 5 minutes, take a look at the photos on our class webpage (Autumn Photographs/videos)
We have identified traits of a hero studying Beowulf in depth, finding quotes from the text to back up our reasons. The children have explored Norse mythology characters and settings in order to plan their own myths. They have begun writing these, making sure they set the tone for the reader as a story in this genre should be told. Next week, they will write the rest of their myths ready to edit, redraft and improve. I hope that we can publish some on here before Christmas!
In Maths, the children have immersed themselves in being able to read, draw and interpret tables (including timetables!) as these are real life skills that are important to learn. They have embedded their prior knowledge of factors of numbers so that next week, they can learn about prime, square and cubed numbers. With this, there will be lots of investigating in order to grasp these concepts. The children’s TTRockstar battle has been priceless this week as they have literally been neck and neck the whole week. Results (and extra break for the winning team will be announced tomorrow!)
Last week, the children took part in scientific investigations in order to use their results to create line graphs with Mr Davy. Then this week, they begun to create their authentic Viking board games using tiles and paint. Mr Davy is looking forward to helping them create their wooden versions of these too so that they have used different materials effectively. Such fun!
In gymnastics, the children have been learning how to; jump through a vault, complete handstands, cartwheels and round offs. They’ve been brilliantly confident even when some of them have fallen flat on their faces. They will be using all their new-found skills by using them in a sequence creation. In hockey, the children have been playing matches to get them used to attacking and defending in a team situation. They’ve really enjoyed it and it is the best way to practise everything they have learned. Our Star Players over the last two weeks are from Week 1: Beth WR, Oscar P (Mon) Milly W, Sonny (Tues) Week 2: Grace S (Mon) Emma, Millie K (Tues) – keep it up everyone!
A massive well done to our most recent Star Writer, Beth WR who wrote an incredible piece of writing during our last Big Write. She has also became last week’s top speller AND the previous week’s star pupil. What a fortnight it’s been for her!
What a fab evening the Christmas Fayre was on Friday. Miss Pascoe and Mrs Ballard worked tirelessly with the children to create their cupcakes which were a hit – many thanks for your support! We hope the wooden decoration ends up on your Christmas tree at home 😊

It’s been a manic couple of weeks now we’re gearing up for the Christmas concert! Our song is incredibly high so to start off with, the children struggled but now we’ve practised, it’s been a real grower! We’re going for vocal quality this year rather than lots of jazz hands!
We hope you’ve had a great weekend,
Mr Larter

Thanks for the update. Robyn was indeed buzzing after the Viking day despite her lack of enthusiasm about dressing up!! (Not just vikings – all dressing up) She loved making and trying all the food and her shield was great. Christmas cupcakes were yummy – even made it until Saturday lunchtime!!
